The artist is Ermolaev
Boris Ermolaev created a series of “typical” family portraits in the early 1930s. Families of the military, peasants, inhabitants of urban workers of the outskirts pose against the background of wastelands and typical houses or ghostly shine through through the false-old darkened varnish vonis. These small ones, the size of a photo card of work – like an archive of an unknown family found in a dusty attic. The figures are erased, blurred, which enhances the effect of their kinship, almost twin. Their posing is not for show – detached, dispersed: they were lost in the uncertainty of the background, confused in the web of time and wait for them to be discovered when they are discovered. Photo-a trailer for the time, the imprint of the disappeared mig, the document of the once former, now not existing. Lyubov Shakirova. Family album of the Russian Museum // Portrait of Family.
