Kirov (Kostrikov) Sergey Mironovich (1886–1934) – a leader of the Communist Party. Member of the Tomsk Committee of the RSDLP (1905–1907), one of the organizers and leaders of the defense of Astrakhan (1919), the first secretary of the Leningrad Provincial Committee of the CPSU (b) (1926–1934).
After death with. M. Kirova (1934), many Soviet artists turned to the plots related to his personality. In Leningrad, Kirov in his lifetime enjoyed great authority, and after his mysterious death he gained the features of the mythological hero. Repeatedly wrote portraits of Kirov and Zverev, fulfilling state orders. In this portrait, the artist depicted a famous politician and head of the Leningrad party organization with a simple and charming person, which contradicted the requirements of socialist realism.
